I can feel my back hurt just listening to you advising startups to buy $30 chairs. Any 'Web 2.0' startup is going to be built on the backs of your programmers, at least get them a good chair and a nice monitor so they can survive the ridiculous hours you're going to ask them to work at pathetic salaries (or none at all) in the hopes of their sliver of equity paying off. If you real Joel Spolsky's stuff you'll see he's actually greatly in favor of good (and expensive) chairs, two monitors per developer, private offices and generally all the things that help drive the most productivity out of your top performers.....but then Joel has a 'business', they sell 'products', and they have both a 'business plan' and 'cash flow', so they can afford to focus on the thing that makes them money, writing software. The current crop of Web 2.0 game-show contestants whose business plans consist of 'I hope someone buys us' is really quite sad to watch, and buying cheap chairs isn't going to fix what's wrong with their companies.
