Re: Re: Re: Deep Thoughts About VoIP's Future in Canada
by Anonymous
I would like to make a comment based on someone suggesting that Bell and Rogers have better voice quality on VOIP. I called Bell to ask if they Quality of Service with the VOIP service, they said no. They do require 240K up and 240K down which is double from most VOIP providers. If Bell and Rogers did tag SIP/VOIP packets on their own networks and prioritized their VOIP packets (as long as CRTC will let them) this would offer a competitive advantage over Vonage and others. I wonder if this will be part of debate on Canadian Net Neutrality? From a technical standpoint, this would make their service as close to POTS plus all the other kool features like web based voice mail. I think this is what AT&T does in US, they have best VOIP service, it is more costly. Also, why can't Bell and Rogers offer ability of adding softphones, Vonage has softphone, Broadvoice has softphone????
