Its simple, they are just not fast enough. By the time a paper can get out an issue with a featured story of any importance, I have already read about it online three times. The web has brought us an age of fast news content, way before a newspaper can deliver it.
Papers will continue to fall in readers as the baby boomers eventually reach the end of their lives. Generation X will eventually think of papers as a memory of their parents.
