Re: Re: Can Google Jump-Start Muni Wi-Fi?

Look at the experience in Taipei where over 4000 mesh wifi APs are deployed by a nimble innovative company in one of the most dynamic, techno-savvy, wifi-savvy areas in the world. It turns out that there are major problems deploying public wifi: interference, lack of in-building penetration, lack of hi speed backhaul. Even where it is deployed, useage is low. The operator is trying some new service models, but no big success yet. Wifi will be deployed in city centers, as part of an integrated network that provides universal coverage through complimentary WIMAX or cellular solutions. Wifi will not work by itself.
