i definitely think that blogging makes you a better reader. instead of taking in everything at face value, you get into the mindset of "what do I think about this", "what more is there to this story?" or "how does that conflict with something XYZ said?" and "how can I add value to this bit of news?".
Reading a lot is one thing, but there's no substitute for crystalizing your thoughts into 2 or 3 coherent paragraphs that have to stand up to the robust critique of your peers.
if that means that people are starting to take on a journalist's mindset, then that can only be a good thing.
