Re: Wholesale VOIP
by Anonymous
Certainly agree with you that all the attention is on the retail side of VoIP. And as important as that is one has to wonder how many of the start-ups can be successful? Vonage has done an incredible job of promoting consumer / small business VoIP through its online marketing. It is hard to hit a popular website and not find Vonage on it. However, the other pure VoIP players don't have Vonage's advertising budget, and for Vonage itself it would be interesting to see what they spend on sales and marketing versus what they are spending to expand their footprint and upgrade their technology. It seems to me that there exists a great deal of opportunity for the likes of Level 3 and other carriers to develop a wholesale "private lable" VoIP offering. Something that their ISP customers could package as an offering to the end customers without having to make the large investment in softswitches, back office systems, etc. I wrote a piece on this for my blog late last month.
