If you want to get a taste of what a powerful Google-type search could do in travel give a try with Kayak. Instant market and availablity survey for a particular location or flight route. I use it often just to get a picture of what is available prior to making reservations. Sometimes they have a lower price than the hotel sites; other times the hotel sites are lower but not by more than a few percent.
