Re: Stop Fooling Around...Time for the GBrowser

Mark,
You're certainly down on Google these days! But really; ignoring their recent missteps (or I would suggest, lack of follow-thru), do you really think it would be a good idea for them to introduce their own browser? Does the world really need another browser?!
Isn't it wise for them to support an open source project like Firefox, and position themselves as a key influencer instead. Afterall, you don't have to be the 100% owner of a company to ensentially set the direction etc. for it. I believe that Mozilla has done a lot of the right things, and has developed a very valuable open source project with Firefox. More and more companies, like Songbird, are developing (extensible) applications on Firefox, and creating a strong ecosystem for other companies - even powerhouses like Google - to leverage.
Now, if you are suggesting that Google create their own Firefox distribution, incorporating their various Web services (and hopefully providing more ongoing investment in those services), then I couldn't agree more with you. Together, this could create a powerful computing platform for both consumers and enterprises. Additionally, this could help secure them as the MicroSoft of the Web2.0 age.
