Blip.TV's Dina Kaplan apparently challenged several bloggers to create video blogs. Some such as Andy Abramson did it, others such as Alec Saunders did not - and he explains why here. (Mathew Ingram also provides his non-video position). So why haven't I done a video blog? One is the time and effort to do a properly produced, quality video blog strikes me as more intense than a blog entry or a podcast. Two, I'm just beginning to get the hang of podcasting so I need to run digitally before I walk. Third - and probably most important - is I'm a "seasoned" print hack. While I can do TV, I'm far more comfortable behind the keyboard. Will I do a video blog down the road? Probably but it's not a priority right now.
Update: Brad Ideas has an impassioned "don't vlog" post that focuses on quality, search and access issues, while Robert Scoble offers an extensive truth and/or false assessment of video blogging.

All depends on what you mean by "Quality Produced." You can shoot something meaningful in one take. Once you get a few basic concepts (like keep the camera close to you for better sound, don't be backlit) it'll look and sound OK. You don't need to be totally slick. Different folks have different comfort levels with being on camera, but the more you do it, the easier it gets.

what i meant by "quality produced" is just the idea you need more than just some people or person talking in front of a camera to make it interesting and compelling video. then again, zefrank just talks, and he's pretty interesting.

I hope you will offer transcripts for people like me who are deaf.

Video logging is not that hard. The equipment must be very good for a good quality overall. And you need a pretty good computer with specialized software for processing videos. In addition you must know something about the software. Like I said. Not that hard :D.
