View Article  Forget about Web 2.0 Cool. What's Useful

In my mind, Roboform is the killer-app of Web 2.0 because you can easily jump from service to service and having user names and passwords automatically submitted. I've got nearly 200 different Web sites in my Roboform menu - many of which have been added over the past few months as yet another must-see beta program is unveiled (Today, it was Crazy Egg). Many of these services, however, are rarely if ever used but I'm reluctant to delete them just in case (It's kind of like not erasing the names in your little black book. That is, if you ever had a little black book). Of the Web 2.0 services on my Roboform list, here are the ones that I use on a regular basis:

- Blogware: my blogging publisher that compares favourably to TypePad and Wordpress even though it doesn't get as much attention.

- Evite: even people like me with children need to send dinner party invitations

- Yahoo/Rogers: for personal e-mail

- Gmail: free account for non-work, non-personal e-mail

- LibSyn: neat hosting service for podcasts

- Wordpress: home to All Nortel, All the Time blog

- PayPal: how I handle all those eBay auction wins and sales

- Sphere, Technorati, Google: tools to search the blogosphere

- Writely - cool Web-based word processing tool

- Google Analytics, Blogbeat, Performancing: tools to meet never-ending need to check blog statistics

- TheGoodBlogs: a tool to promote other blogs and track traffic

I'd be interested in what other people on a regular basis.

View Article  Live.com Doesn't Love Me

Microsoft has introduced a new and improved search engine called Live Search. So like any good blogger and ego-centric Web user, naturally the first thing I did was conduct a search for "Mark Evans". Wait, what's this? Live.com barely has me on the front page -whereas Google and Yahoo both rank me #1. So who does Microsoft love more than me? Well, the top-ranked Mark Evans is some guy in England who's a veterinary surgeon, TV personality, author, amateur engineeer and e-commerce retailer. Now, that's a Mark Evans who's living up to his name but I'm not going to take this sitting down, Mark Evans. Until Live.com makes me the #1 Mark Evans, this is war...well, sorta, kinda, maybe given all of us Mark Evans should probably stick together. Microsoft's press release can be found here, while everything else you'd want to hear from folks in the blogosphere is here.

My blog has moved. Check out the new Mark Evans. It's part of my mini-blog empire that also includes All About Nortel and Twitterrati. You can subscribe to Mark Evans Tech by clicking on the RSS symbol above.
