Geek Glasses for the iPod

Once in awhile, you stumble across a head-scratching VC deal. Today's candidate is MicroOptical Corp., which raised $11.5-million from Atlas Venture to create eyeglasses called myvu that "virtually enlarge" video from iPods and other portable video devices. The idea, is when you wear these glasses and plug them into a iPod, it creates a 12" to 14" virtual video screen about three feet in front of the you. The company is sellling these glasses for $269. And now you know......

Mark - I've always thought this was a cool product idea but it doesn't seem to ever have taken off. I met with a company a few years ago that was doing something similar for the gaming market. I saw the demo, and it was quite neat to have a "big virtual screen" right in front of you. I always wondered if there was a market for laptop users who want privacy while working on documents in an airplane, or other public spot.
