Amid all this digital technology, does it strike anyone as strange that business cards are still alive and well? I mean, we live in a world of Web sites, blogs and e-mail yet if you appear at an event without a business card, you feel kind of naked. It explains why I didn't feel like a real b5media employee until the new business cards were delivered. That said, I do see a day when blogs could replace business cards but how would you remember anyone's information without a business card.

Isn't that where blogcards come into play? ;)
Or wait. Maybe it will just zap over from a Zune-like device, as long as I don't want to look at it more than 3 times in 3 days, that is. ;) Re: Business Cards Web 2.0?

Mark, I posted a response on my blog, but I didn't see a pingback for some reason. I think business cards play an important role and I don't see them being replaced in the future. By that I mean, at least 6 months. :)
Re: Re: Business Cards Web 2.0?
ben,
if you think about it, perhaps the reason e-books haven't replaced paper books is because paper books are the perfect technology - lightweight, portable, durable, etc. perhaps the same can be said for business cards - they are perfect "technology" that resonates with everyone and can be used for different purposes. I agree with you Mark. If I'm going the e-book route, I'd sooner listen to an audio book. On the topic of ebooks, why are they even here? Their sole purpose in life is to solve the distribution and warehousing challenges of the distributors and that's for the them to figure out, not the consumer. Besides, what would coffee tables everywhere look like without a nicely bound hardcover here and there? ;)

Mark:
Funny you should mention that.... we have been doing some experimenting with green screening and video for web ... and we were tinkering with a business card concept. Not sure if you'd consider this web 2.0.... or utterly useless for that matter... but anyway thought it might be relevant (and remotely interesting). Cheers Wayne Re: Business Cards Web 2.0?
