Hat tip to Rick Segal for passing along a Gizmodo post on how Tivo will finally be made available to Canadians.
The only problem is Canadians have to buy/import Tivo units in the U.S.
and then follow special instructions to set it up.If your Tivo breaks, warranty replacement units will only be
shipped to the U.S. You can buy a box for as low as $49.99, while
monthly service is $12.99 or $299 for a life-time deal. So what is Tivo?
In simple terms, it's a really smart set-top box much like what Rogers
is selling now only better. Among Tivo's issues is its growth is being
challenged by cablecos who would rather the develop their own in-house
PVR than enter into a partnership with Tivo. As of the end of the second-quarter, Tivo had 3.6 million subscribers uet only generated $240,000 in profits on $40.7-million of sales.

One note: that US $49.99 price is after US $150 rebate, which is only available in the US. So, the new price become US $500. Plus, the $299 deal is described as "product lifetime", which is a little unclear. Is that until the box dies? Until TiVo stops supporting it? DB.

Too little, too late. I started writing TiVo and ReplayTV in 2000, asking them to supply service to Canadians. I have owned, during the time I lived in the United States, 3 ReplayTV boxes. Both TiVo and Replay are hands down better than anything offered by Rogers or Bell... but you know what? I've already spent potloads of money buying the Bell unit. And, I'm about to upgrade to the next generation Bell unit for HD.
Sorry, TiVo. Missed opportunity. Re: Tivo Finally Coming to Canada

Finally, you can buy Tivo on Canada. Check out www.thepvrsource.com. It's a company based out of Calgary. That's where I Bought mine. Thank you for bringing Tivo north of the border! I can't imagine life without it now!
