Looks like Rich Tehrani has set off a firestorm of speculation surrounding Vonage. On one of the Broadband Forums, someone is suggesting Bell South may be interested in going after Deltathree or 8x8. Vonage will go public by merging with Vocaltec, which will then be renamed Vonage. The thinking is because Vocaltec is based in Israel, Jeff Citron would be allowed to be CEO. If the SEC doesn't let Citron be CEO, Vonage will listed in London and Israel. This scenario strikes me as yet another M&A fantasy. In fact, I feel "dirty" repeating it but, hey, I'm just the messenger. I still think Vonage will do an IPO rather than being acquired. The other big unknown is Vonage's value. How would anyone - an acquirer or an IPO investor - value Vonage? Number of subscribers, revenue, market share, brand power? Do not be surprised to see a slew of Vonage rumors unleashed over the quiet summer season. Is may be an exercise to kill the monotony and/or impatience about Vonage's future.
