Om Malik laments the fact he was slow off the mark to sign up for Google Analytics. If it's any consolation, demand among those who did manage to get in is causing big-time problems. At least Google comes clean by admitting "the demand for Google Analytics surpassed even our highest expectations and as a result some customers may temporarily experience report-update delays." So far, I'm quasi-impressed by the different kinds of data presented, although I'm not sure what, if anything, to do with it. I'm somewhat confused, however, by how Google comes up with the number of page views, which are far below what Blogware's statistical package generates. Still, I can understand why the service was enthusiastically received. It demonstrates many bloggers have been less than satisfied with existing analytical tools such as Mint. I think it also suggests ego remains a big driver for many bloggers who want to gauge their popularity. Om makes a valid point in criticizing Google for releasing a new service into the "wild" and "not be prepared for the worst case scenario. (Like the service could actually become a hit?)". I'm hoping Measure Map offers a Blogware-friendly version of its service soon.
